Isolation Transformer Manufacturer UK

UK manufactured isolation transformers built to your voltage, rating and enclosure requirements. Custom single phase and three phase designs for machinery, control panels, marine systems and specialist equipment.

Custom-Built Isolation Transformers

We design and manufacture custom-built isolation transformers for a wide range of industrial, commercial, marine, medical and OEM applications. Whether you require a small single-phase control transformer, a three-phase machine supply transformer, or a fully cased unit with metering, protection and special terminations, we can manufacture a transformer to suit your requirements.

Our isolation transformers are designed to provide electrical separation between the incoming supply and the equipment being supplied. They are commonly used for machine voltage conversion, control panels, imported machinery, sensitive equipment, marine systems, test equipment and applications where supply isolation is required for safety or performance reasons.

Everything is designed and manufactured at our UK base, and every unit is individually tested before dispatch. For unusual voltage, mounting or application requirements, see our custom electrical transformers page for more examples of the bespoke transformer work we can undertake.

Single Phase and Three Phase Isolation Transformers

We manufacture both single-phase and three-phase isolation transformers in open-frame or metal-cased construction. Primary and secondary voltages can be specified to suit your installation, and we can accommodate a wide range of supply frequencies, including 50Hz, 60Hz and 400Hz. For larger cased units, our three-phase metal cased transformers page gives an indication of enclosure styles, ratings and options.

Typical requirements include:

  • Single phase transformers up to 50kVA
  • 400V or 415V to 230V step down isolation transformers
  • 230V to 400V step up isolation transformers
  • Three phase isolation and machine conversion transformers
  • Transformers for equipment imported from overseas
  • Transformers for control panels and distribution boards
  • Isolation transformers with multiple secondary windings
  • Screened transformers for sensitive equipment

If your supply does not have a neutral available but your equipment requires one, we can also design a suitably configured three phase transformer to provide a neutral on the secondary side.

Electrostatic Screens and Custom Construction

The majority of our isolation transformers incorporate an electrostatic screen between the primary and secondary windings. This helps reduce the transfer of electrical noise and provides additional separation between the incoming supply and the load.

Depending on the application, we can supply:

  • Open frame transformers for fitting into your own equipment
  • Wall mounted metal cased transformers
  • Floor standing enclosures for larger ratings
  • Portable units or enclosures with castors
  • IP rated enclosures up to IP66 where required
  • Fuses, circuit breakers, meters, plugs/sockets and other special terminals
  • Multiple input and output voltage arrangements
  • Units designed to meet European and international standards

The table sizes shown on our product pages are intended as a guide only. Many of our transformers are designed for a particular installation, so please contact our sales office with your voltage, rating and mounting requirements and we will be pleased to offer a quotation. If the transformer is to be fitted into a control panel or machine enclosure, our single phase open frame control transformers page shows typical open frame construction.

When Is an Isolation Transformer Required?

An isolation transformer may be specified where the load needs to be electrically separated from the supply, where a neutral needs to be derived, where electrical noise needs to be reduced, or where equipment is being installed on a supply that is different from the equipament working voltage form.

In some applications, isolation is not required. In this instance an auto wound transformer may be considered to economise on size, weight and cost. If you are unsure which type is suitable, our design and sales team can help you decide.

  • Supplying machine tools from a different site voltage
  • Protecting sensitive equipment from supply interference
  • Providing isolation for test benches and laboratory equipment
  • Creating a suitable supply for imported machinery
  • Meeting site safety or specification requirements
  • Supplying marine, medical, audio or specialist electrical equipment

FAQ

An isolation transformer separates the equipment being supplied from the incoming electrical supply. It is often used for machine voltage conversion, safety isolation, neutral generation, noise reduction and specialist electrical installations.

Yes. We can manufacture single phase and three phase isolation transformers with a wide range of primary and secondary voltages. Multiple windings and special voltage combinations can also be accommodated.

Yes. We can supply open frame transformers for fitting into equipment, or metal cased transformers for wall mounting, floor standing or portable use. Higher IP rated enclosures can also be supplied where required.

The majority of our isolation transformers incorporate an electrostatic screen between the primary and secondary windings. This is particularly useful where electrical noise or additional separation is a concern.

We normally need the input voltage, output voltage, rating, frequency, phase, enclosure requirements and any relevant standards or approvals. If you are unsure, send us the equipment details and our team will advise.
